December 5th - Reading As Rebellion in the Age of AI Reflection - Ryan Hinton
I still remember Dr. Carney walking into our classroom and giving his speech on Reading As Rebellion in the Age of AI. I thought it was a really interesting essay because of how he described his experience meeting that woman in Budapest and the profound memory that it made in his life. It made me think of profound experiences I have had with people that seemed randomly out of the blue, and if those experiences have had as much of an impact on me as they did him. Having gone through this entire course now, though, I can understand much more of what Dr. Carney was talking about with writing. Since this course started, I have picked up journaling and have started to jot down my thoughts a lot more than I did previously. I find writing to be an outlet for many things that I am passionate about and wish to keep to myself while still recording somewhere. More than that, I believe journaling has made me more reflective on my own life and conscious of how I perceive both myself and my surroundings. While maybe not the direct inspiration for my taking up of journaling, I can't help but note the impact that Dr. Carney's passionate plea to pursue the arts more had on me and my own mind. Writing is beautiful and something I hope to continue exploring in my own life.
